CALL FOR PAPERS PRESENCE 2000 3rd International Workshop on Presence 27-28 March 2000 Delft University of Technology Delft, The Netherlands You are warmly invited to participate in PRESENCE 2000, the third International Workshop on Presence. AIMS The central goal of the workshop is to provide an open discussion forum in which we can share fruitful concepts for presence research, useful measurement methodologies and discuss applications in areas such as entertainment, education, communication and interface design. We aim to bring together academic researchers in the area of media and presence, content and technology developers, and commercially interested parties so that they can meet, learn from each other's experiences, present their research, and exchange ideas. CONTRIBUTIONS The workshop invites submissions of original, high quality papers, videos, and demonstrations discussing completed or on-going work that addresses issues relevant to presence research. Contributions should aim at promoting discussion and identifying salient issues and problems. Topics for submission to PRESENCE 2000 include, but are not limited to: * the concept of presence: causes and effects * copresence in shared VEs and online communities * presence evaluation/measurement methodologies * presence-associated technologies: immersive, interactive, multimodal displays advanced broadcast/cinematic displays (stereoscopic TV, HDTV, IMAX, OMNIMAX) virtual environments/ simulators * social/affective interfaces, virtual agents, parasocial interactions * applications: education & training medical/therapeutic entertainment communication teleoperation * designing presence * state-of-the-art of current research * philosophical issues - nature of reality If your company is interested in supporting PRESENCE 2000, financially or otherwise, please contact Huib de Ridder (mailto:h.deridder@io.tudelft.nl). SUBMISSION PROCEDURE Potential contributors are invited to submit a URL before 15 January 2000 via e-mail to Wijnand IJsselsteijn (mailto:W.A.IJsselsteijn@tue.nl). This URL should point to an HTML document containing the following information (all in the document, not via links to other documents): Names and affiliations of all authors - presenting author should be indicated. Phone, fax and email of corresponding author. Summary of main contributions (e.g. a set of bullet points) The main document of the work to be presented (no more than 4 pages when printed). The programme committee will review submissions and will notify the contributors before 1 March 2000. PUBLICATION In order to allow attendees to read the short papers and promote discussions prior to the workshop, accepted papers will appear on the www.presence-research.org internet-site as an electronic pre-publication. Efforts are being made towards the possibility of publishing a post-workshop journal special issue for which authors may be invited to write up a full paper.
